Andreessen Horowitz's crypto division has planted its flag in Asia, opening its first regional office in Seoul. The venture capital giant named SungMo Park as head of APAC go-to-market, tasking the former Monad Foundation and Polygon Labs executive with spearheading ecosystem growth across East Asia, Greater China, Southeast Asia and India.

The move capitalizes on South Korea's position as the world's second-largest cryptocurrency market. Anthony Albanese, a16z's COO, confirmed the office will provide operational support for portfolio companies scaling across Asian markets, with Park leading regional strategy and partnership development.

The expansion follows a16z's State of crypto report highlighting Asia's dominant share of onchain activity. Maggie Hsu, the firm's go-to-market lead, signaled this as just the beginning of planned regional infrastructure investments to support web3 adoption.
